Event Details

Residing in Warwickshire, Lauren South is an accomplished singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist renowned for her original compositions and traditional melodies.

With the accompaniment of tenor guitar, fiddle, and shruti box, her songs exude heartfelt emotion and vivid imagery, drawing inspiration from her passion for the nocturnal heavens, the natural world, and her journey through motherhood.

Beyond her solo endeavours, Lauren is an enthusiastic collaborator and constitutes half of the dynamic new duo, Donnelly & South, alongside Keith Donnelly.

Her debut solo album Tiny Boat was released in November 2023.

‘I love Lauren’s voice! It has a distinctive and unique beauty that allows her to turn every word she sings into a kind of magic formula.’ (Reg Meuross)

‘Enthralling, intricate, pure crystal vocal lines… some of the most beautifully melodic vocal lines I’ve heard.’ (The Woodman Folk Club)

The Support Artists on the night will be …

Dave and Julia Taylor

Dave started writing songs in the mid 1970s with the high point being, perhaps, reaching the area finals of the “Melody Maker Folk Rock Contest” in 1976.

After a 15 year or so break due to career/family- the usual, he emerged as a “born again folkie” at the age of around 50. This resulted in 6 solo CDs , two with wife Julia in “On the Fence”, and more recently in collaboration in the production of a couple of fundraising CDs for “Rainbows Hospice, and now the “Legends of Leicester/Leicestershire – vol 2” album

He writes both comedy and serious songs with a strong element of social observation and a sense of humour often described as “wicked”.

Phillip Benson

Phil has been involved in folk since the 60s, albeit with a 20-year break from active involvement.  In the early 70s, he was part of an electric folk group, Alderley Edge, with Malc Gurnham and David Parr, performing all over the Midlands area. He also got together with David Parr in a more traditional folk trio with John Meechan, Coolin. When Nuneaton Arts Centre was being set up, Phil got involved, so it was no surprise that Coolin were the hosts of the folk club that opened there.
